DHS/ICE unveils renovated forensic laboratory

Categories Biometrics News  |  Law Enforcement

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale today unveiled a major renovation of ICE Homeland Security Investigations’ Forensic Laboratory in Tysons Corner, Virginia and lead a tour of the facility.

Today’s public unveiling showcased the improvements made over the course of a four-year, multi-phase renovation project that increased the laboratory’s operating space by nearly 10,000 square feet to a total of nearly 40,000 square feet.

Begun in 2012, the recently completed renovation project also reflects the increasing diversity of laboratory services needed to support the mission of ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

According to a government statement, this one-of-a-kind lab is the premier resource for forensics, research, training, and law enforcement issues related to travel and identity documents in the United States. The lab provides advanced forensic, intelligence, and investigative support to DHS and other U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies, on a wide variety of criminal cases including document fraud, gangs, drug trafficking, bulk cash smuggling, human smuggling, child exploitation and cybercrime.
