Beijing considering biometrics to facilitate passenger entry at metro stations

A representative from the Beijing Transportation Committee told local media that the city is going to pilot face recognition technology at metro stations by the end of this year.

According to the director of Beijing Metro Network Control Center, facial recognition is currently the most suitable technology for the metro.

In December it was announced that speech and facial recognition technologies developed by Alibaba will be deployed in the Shanghai subway system.

YITU Technologies AI research scientist Dr. Wu Shuang recently told Biometric Update that the level of education about AI and facial recognition technology must significantly improve so the industry and the general public can talk about how to apply such advanced technology in a more reasonable way.
