Acer laptops shipping with smartphone-based biometric support from GoTrust ID

Beginning late last year, selected Windows laptops and desktops with BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) support from Acer have been shipped preloaded with biometric universal phone authenticator GoTrustID, according to an announcement.

GoTrust ID enables users to quickly login without a password using their iOS or Android mobile device, with the phone’s fingerprint, facial, or iris biometrics providing an additional layer of protection. The software also supports user phones as a FIDO U2F key over BLE for two-factor authentication (2FA) for a wide variety of online services. FIDO U2F 1.2 is part of FIDO’s CTAP, which was officially recognized by the ITU in late 2018 as FIDO authentication gains wide appeal.

“Adding passwordless GoTrust ID to Acer computers makes them some of the most secure and easiest to use PCs available,” says Acer AVP Jade Zhou. “GoTrust ID makes it convenient to use a smartphone as an authentication token.”

GoTrust ID is also a Windows Hello certified app, supporting login without a password for the entire Microsoft ecosystem.

“GoTrust is very excited to be working closely with Acer to help end the secure identity loophole,” comments GoTrust CEO Darren Lee. “We are gratified by the confidence Acer has shown in our universal authenticator technology by shipping it with their computer systems.”
