VisionLabs brings facial recognition to Atlas AI accelerator with Huawei partnership

VisionLabs has signed a cooperative agreement with Huawei to combine its face biometrics with the latter’s computer vision and artificial intelligence accelerator Atlas, according to Russian outlet CNews.

The first joint project between the companies is the launch of Atlas 800 support to VisionLabs’ Luna SDK for facial recognition and analysis. The cross-platform set of development tools provided by the Luna SDK enables the neural network-powered recognition of faces and other objects in 2D images.

VisionLabs consistently performs among the leaders in testing by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The joint solution from VisionLabs and Huawei allows users to detect faces from video streams or still images, extract biometric templates from them, and compare them with a downloadable database. The images can come from IP cameras, video recorders, wearable devices and other sources.

“Our partnership with Huawei, one of the leaders in hardware manufacturing, will allow us to offer our customers a complete computer vision solution, where the combination of software and hardware gives efficiency several times higher than existing ones. market offers,” states VisionLabs CEO Dmitry Markov, per Google translate. “This aspect is especially important when fast work with large databases is required – for example, in transport and industrial infrastructure enterprises, smart city management platforms, in national banking and government services.”

VisionLabs, which was acquired by Sberbank in late-2017, and Sberbank Management Board Deputy Chairman Stanislav Kuznetsov mentions increasing efficiency in the fight against crime and ensuring safety in public spaces, as well as customer service, as an opportunity for collaboration.

“The partnership with VisionLabs will be a big step forward in the joint development of artificial intelligence not only in Russia, but also in other regions of the world,” comments Huawei Enterprise Eurasia CEO Xiao Haijun. “We are delighted that VisionLabs has chosen our Atlas 800 AI server. It is the ideal solution for imaging, video analytics and deep immersion learning. We look forward to further fruitful cooperation and expect that the joint solution will find application in many areas. “
