Mobile biometrics prominent as ID4Africa unveils themes for Marathon of Innovations

Biometrics and digital ID

ID4Africa has unveiled ‘Identity Management Tools for a World in Crisis’ as the overall event theme of its live virtual conference on biometrics and digital identity innovation, and also announced the themes for the event’s sessions.

The conference, dubbed ‘ID4Africa 2020: Marathon of Innovations,’ will feature six themes and take place from 8 to 10 December 2020, including ID4Africa’s Innovation World Tour.

The movement said in its announcement that the virtual conference is part of its efforts at helping companies and countries adapt their identity management practices to the current realities of the “new normal” occasioned by the global pandemic.

The themes to be treated in the course of the conference will touch on diverse subjects including digital identity innovations; enabling service delivery; mobile platforms, derived identities and the future of secure credentials; digital ID for travel and population flow management and ‘next-gen enabling technologies.’

Theme one will specifically deal with topics such as end-to-end digital identity schemes, identity intelligence, digital identity schemes for reinforcing national and legal identity programs, and the new ecosystem for digital management, among others.

On theme two, issues related to new priorities for digital identity schemes, new economic models for eServices, designing for trust and availability, and designing for interoperability will all be discussed.

As part of themes three and four, key topics such as mobile as a preferred platform for onboarding and authentication, emergence of derived identities, securing and protecting the privacy of identity data, and designing for affordability, accessibility and user control, are on the menu.

Themes five and six cut across other major subjects including biometric innovations and the integration of digital identity into everyday transactions.

The event will end with a conference summary and an announcement of Marathon winners and awarding of medals.

ID4Africa says passes for the event are already available and free registration of government workers for the upcoming virtual event is underway.

An ID4Africa webinar spotlighting identity systems in Tanzania will also be held on November 12.
