Brunei officially launches national digital ID app

After a soft launch in November, Brunei has officially introduced its national digital identity app called Brunei ID.
The app was made available for download at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store last Saturday. Residents of the Southeast Asian country will be able to use it for digital identity verification based on their identity card when accessing e-government services through a single login supported by biometric authentication.
Biometric authentication is carried out locally on the user’s device, while personal data is protected in accordance with local regulation, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) explain in an announcement.
While some government services are already online, others will be added in the future. Currently, Bruneians can access the Public Service Commission Recruitment (PSC), the Business Reporting portal, TransportBN, BruHealth, E-Undi, and the Talian Darussalam 123 (TD123) mobile application.
According to previous announcements, BruneiID will eventually replace the country’s existing e-Darussalam authentication platform. Overseeing the rollout is the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD).
