Cognitec announces video analytics with advanced anonymous recognition technology

Categories Biometrics News

Cognitec has announced the newest iteration of its FaceVACS-VideoSecan screening and analysis technology, which now employs anonymous facial recognition to analyze the count, flow and demographics of people visible in video streams while protecting privacy and data security.

The FaceVACS-VideoScan detects faces in live video streams and stores anonymous information for each appearance in front of a camera. Analysis of this information over time allows the software to compute people count, demographical information, people movement in time and space and to detect frequent visitors and crowds on a large scale.

The company says this system has a broad base of uses and could — for example — be effective for measuring waiting times in traffic or targeting digital messaging to consumers.

Cognitec is presenting this technology at the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas and at the Retail Business Technology Expo in London.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, Cognitec’s FACEVACS-DBScan and FaceVACS-SDK are now both using the company’s B7 engine. According to the Germany-based company, the B7 algorithm shows a significant boost in performance for recognizing faces in low-resolution images, as well as partial faces and images with significant noise.

In June of 2012, Cognitec celebrated its tenth anniversary as a company.
