Double-digit CAGR for global AFIS market: report

A new report is available on the global automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) market, and expects it to grow at a CAGR of 19.71 percent between 2012 and 2016.

Published by TechNavio, the report notes that one of the key factors contributing to this market growth is the increased acceptance of e-governance projects. In addition, says the report, the global AFIS market has also been witnessing the availability of customized AFIS applications.

That being said, the report also suggests there is a need for higher standardization and that compatibility could pose a challenge to the growth of this market.

The report, Global Automated Fingerprint Identification System market 2012-2016 covers the market in the Americas, the EMEA and APAC regions.

A separate, but also recently published research report on the Chinese biometric market, also notes strong growth but attributes the highest chunk of the biometric market share to fingerprint identification.

In addition, the smartphone and mobile market is having an incredibly positive impact on fingerprint, as many upcoming devices will sport fingerprint sensors. The Biometrics Research Group expects that biometrics – including fingerprint – will become integrated in a wide array of mobile devices in the near future.
