Precise Biometrics launches Tactivo for iPhone 5

The Precise Biometrics Tactivo reader has now been approved by Apple for the iPhone 5 and is ready for global launch.

“We are pleased to announce that Tactivo for iPhone 5 now is ready for global launch,” Thomas Marschall, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics said. “We are seeing an increased interest in Tactivo and with the launch of Tactivo for iPHone 5 we further expand our product offering.

This new certification comes as no surprise, as the Tactivo smart card and biometrics reader has been gathering some impressive momentum over the last year. Iterations have been available for the iOS platform since early development.

Recently, the company announced the availability of the Tactivo mini for Android.

Also, last month, the company signed a major frame agreement with Volkswagen in regards to its Tactivo reader.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, the Tactivo mini is also available in an iOS version, based on the new lightning connector. That iteration of the smart card reader is MFi-certified by Apple.  The Tactivo has also been given FIPS 201 certification, and upon the news, the company’s stock jumped as much as 12 percent.

In April, Precise Biometrics published its 2012 annual report which the company said showed positive development in the mobile market, though Tactivo sales did not meet expectations.

Showing promise for a significant financial year, the company announced a strong start to 2013, boasting impressive sales statistics for the period ending March 31, 2013, totalling US$2.53 million (SEK 16.8 million).
