PasswordBox and Samsung ink partnership for fingerprint authentication on the Galaxy S5

PasswordBox has announced a new partnership with Samsung to roll out an updated version of the PasswordBox Android app for the Samsung Galaxy S5, which leverages the new smartphone’s fingerprint sensor.

Specifically, according to PasswordBox, the new app will allow users to access PasswordBox accounts with fingerprint biometrics.

“If you use a PIN Code in place of your Master Password, you’ll soon have the option to unlock with your fingerprint instead, for stronger security and faster access,” a fresh post on the company’s blog says. “And if you accidentally get logged out of PasswordBox while browsing on your mobile phone, skip typing out your Master Password and let your fingerprint do all the work!”

This is an interesting development and signals an interesting trend for Samsung and the Galaxy S5 smartphone’s fingerprint sensor, which has made its way into the workflow for a few third-party apps. In contrast, the Apple iPhone 5S currently only allows users to unlock the device and authorize iTunes purchases.

PasswordBox and Samsung have both recently joined the FIDO Alliance.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, last month, PasswordBox announced a strategic partnership with Bionym to enable a system for users of the Nu,I bracelet to authenticate on personal devices, websites and apps.
