Fingerprint Cards’ 1021 touch sensor to be integrated into Chinese smartphone

Fingerprint Cards announced its new mobile touch sensor FPC1021 has achieved its first major design win, which will result in the technology being integrated in the flagship model of an unnamed Chinese top 5 smartphone vendor.

The design win comes on the heels of Fingerprint Cards’ launch of the world’s first touch fingerprint sensor specifically developed to be mounted as a home button on the front side of an Android smartphone or tablet.

Launched in April, FPC1021 is 30% smaller in size compared to the previous FPC1020, due to “major advancements” in the matching algorithm.

The touch sensor is also pre-integrated with software and matching algorithms for Android and Windows.

The smartphone vendor plans to begin mass production of the FPC-integrated smartphone in October 2014, with a target sales volume of 3 million units.

According to the press release, the Chinese OEM “wants to remain anonymous until further notice.”

“FPC recently announced its new capacitive touch fingerprint sensor FPC1021, which is 33 % smaller than FPC1020,” said Johan Carlström, president and CEO of FPC. “Now it is with great pride that we announce the first DW for the FPC1021 and with a Chinese Top 5 player in a flagship model. FPC’s superior fingerprint technology, image quality and low power consumption have distanced FPC from any competition for sockets in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. We expect several more design wins for our touch fingerprint sensors during the coming months.”
