Next Biometrics ASA receives five orders for new generation of fingerprint sensor modules

Next Biometrics Group ASA announced it has received several orders for its new generation of fingerprint sensor modules from five companies in the US, Asia and Europe throughout May.

The Next Biometric fingerprint sensors will be integrated into a range of traditional and new market formats.

The new modules — NB-1011, NB-2020 and NB-3010 — are all based on the same sensor and fitted in modules customized for a range of volume markets.

The modules replace the first generation NB-1010 modules that were launched last year.

The customers, whose names have not been disclosed, have ordered SDK’s and sensors in “modest volumes as part of their product development process,” said Next Biometrics.

They all have requirements for large, high performance sensors and all target launch in the second half of 2015 or first half of 2016.

“Having expanded our offering from 1 to 6 sensor modules we now meet the markets demand for various interfaces, colors and physical dimensions,” said Tore Etholm-Idsøe, CEO of NEXT Biometrics. “All of the above customers have made it clear that they need the NEXT unique combination of quality sensor size at a very low price. Longer term these 5 new projects each represent 5 and 6-digit volume potential.”

Previously reported, Next Biometrics Group ASA announced interim results for the first quarter, ended March 31, 2015.
