The European Association for Biometrics (EAB) today announced the appointment of Michiel van der Veen as Chief Executive Officer.

Van der Veen is an experienced executive and well known expert in biometrics and digital identity. He founded priv-ID in 2008 and became CEO of GenKey in 2011, following the merger of both companies. In his first year as CEO, GenKey delivered the world’s first biometric voter verification for the presidential elections in Ghana. Van der Veen led GenKey through multiple stages of growth before he left the company in April 2018.

“The appointment of Michiel as CEO signals a new chapter in the EAB movement and our drive to be the leading association for biometrics and identity in Europe,” commented EAB Chairman Alexander Nouak.

“I’m honored to be appointed CEO of the EAB,” added Van der Veen. “The association is fast becoming a leading forum for industry, governments and academia to network and share trends about biometrics and digital identity. Our focus will be to continue to raise the profile and reputation of the EAB as we expand further across Europe and to deliver even better value to our members, leveraging the strength of our network.”

It was announced last month that Van der Veen would chair the 2018 EAB Banking Seminars series following the passing of EAB co-founder and secretary Max Snijder in April.
