Onfido to verify user identity on shared mobility platform Zoomcar

Identity verification firm Onfido announced its partnership with self-drive shared mobility platform Zoomcar to verify drivers and digitally onboard new users across seven major cities in India.

Onfido’s identity verification technology will make it safer and easier for Zoomcar to rent cars to its users. Zoomcar users can upload a selfie and a photo of their identity document using a smartphone to complete the verification process. Using machine learning technology, Onfido validates a user’s identity document and compares it with their facial biometrics. The identity can then be cross-referenced against international credit and watchlist databases.

Founded in 2012, Onfido has received over $60 million in funding from investors including Microsoft Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and Idinvest Partners. Husayn Kassai, CEO and co-founder, recently wrote a guest post for Biometric Update on the mass-market adoption of facial verification in business.

Onfido is a founding member of the Better Identity Coalition which is working to develop consensus and cross-sector policy initiatives to promote the adoption of effective identity verification and authentication in the U.S. The coalition presented a series of recommendations to policymakers on Capitol Hill this week.
