Panasonic to supply facial recognition and real-time sensing technologies for supply chain solutions

JDA Software and Panasonic have announced a joint partnership to develop integrated solutions based on the JDA Luminate family of artificial intelligence and machine learning-based supply chain software. Among the integrated solutions the companies will work on is an integration of JDA Luminate Control Tower with Panasonic’s facial recognition technology.

The biometric integration enables real-time staff location detection, and analysis of shopper behavior and demographics for merchandising and marketing, according to the announcement. Another integration with JDA Luminate Control Tower provides detection and analysis of human behavior and machines to improve the allocation of workers and equipment.

Imaging technology from Panasonic will also be used for an application to improve the efficiency of package sorting.

“The autonomous supply chain transformation is just beginning and it will be built on correlating edge technologies with enterprise supply chain software. The JDA partnership with Panasonic to co-innovate and deliver solutions to our customers is a major step in that direction,” says JDA CEO Girish Rishi. “Not only will this strengthen JDA’s presence and footprint in Japan, it will also put these new technologies in the forefront of customers’ minds in JDA’s Customer Experience Centers in Scottsdale and London as well as Panasonic’s Connected Solutions Company headquarters in Tokyo, giving customers a tangible look at the autonomy they can drive in their future factories, warehouses, and stores.”

The combination of digital edge technologies leveraging SaaS, IoT, AI, ML, and real-time sensing technologies is intended to enhance the value chain of customers’ logistics and retail operations.

Panasonic demonstrated its FacePRO technology at Security ESSEN 2018 along with partner Genetec, and the core engine of its Face Server platform achieved impressive accuracy results in NIST testing last year.
