NEC to deploy biometric cctv surveillance system in Gurugram City, India

NEC Technologies India (NECTI) has been awarded a contract as the master system integrator for installing CCTV surveillance and traffic management systems in Gurugram City, India, NEC Corporation announced today. The project will see a variety of IP-based outdoor security cameras deployed to selected locations in Gurugram to perform traffic enforcement and general surveillance. The project was awarded in March 2019 and is expected to be implemented within this year.

In the first phase of the project approximately 1,200 HD and Ultra HD cameras are expected to be deployed in more than 200 traffic junctions, sending video feeds to monitoring centers 24 hours a day. The project will utilize the dedicated Optical Fiber Backbone currently being laid out by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority using ring network topology.

Cameras deployed in key selected locations will be equipped with NeoFace Watch, NEC’s flagship facial recognition software platform, to identify persons of interest and other suspicious elements to support law enforcement efforts. The video surveillance system also uses AI-based analytics software such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Red Light Violation Detection to help enforce traffic discipline. The system will monitor traffic junctions and other sensitive areas to identify traffic offenders and issue alarms. Electronic fines can be issued to offenders through the system.

“NEC aims to leverage our global expertise while bringing cutting-edge technologies and established best-practices to Gurugram as a master system integrator,” comments Takayuki Inaba, managing director, NEC Technologies India. “We are looking forward to working closely with the Gurugram Municipal Development Authority to create a better society and a safer environment for its residents.”

NEC recently published a set of core principles for the application of biometrics and artificial intelligence with respect for privacy and human rights, along with commitments to three initiatives to support its corporate responsibility efforts.
