Onfido biometrics tapped for Checkr combined ID verification and background check service

Background check provider Checkr has developed a new unified identity verification and background check solution with integrated ID document verification and facial biometrics from Onfido and Berbix.

Checkr Connect IDV is the first combined ID verification and background check product on the market, according to the announcement. The company cites U.S. Department of Justice statistics indicating more than 17 million identities are stolen in the country and result in financial loss each year, and says Checkr Connect IDV enables businesses to include identity verification in their trust and safety programs while avoiding the difficulty, expense, and time-consumption of complex integrations, manual processes, and poor candidate experiences.

“Every business today faces increased risk from identity fraud, and traditional anti-fraud methods are falling behind the capabilities of sophisticated bad actors,” notes Checkr VP of Product Lydia Varmazis. “We designed Checkr Connect IDV to make it simple for our customers to add identity verification into their hiring workflows, allowing them to elevate their trust and safety programs.”

Onfido’s technology validates the integrity of the user’s ID, and performs a biometric match against it with a selfie. Checkr customers can set up the ID verification process to run in parallel or as a prerequisite to the background check.

“Identity verification and background checks are becoming increasingly important in our digital society and an essential step for every company that wants to grow its customer base or workforce,” says Onfido CEO and Co-founder Husayn Kassai. “By embedding our identity verification technology within Checkr’s platform, we can now offer customers what they have been asking for, a strong, seamless solution for their end-users. And that’s a shared priority for both Checkr and Onfido.”

Onfido recently announced it’s revenues doubled in Q1 on a year-over-year basis.
