Redmi releases smart display with biometric face and voice recognition
Redmi has released its first facial and voice recognition-enabled smart display inspired by Xiaomi’s Mi AI touchscreen speaker Pro 8 smart display and by Amazon Echo Show’s design, writes Gizmochina.
Dubbed the RedmiTouch Screen Speaker 8, it has an 8-inch touchscreen with an HD resolution and a 178-degree viewing angle. It is compatible with six video streaming platforms including Mango TV, Youku, Tencent Video and iQiyi, and with audio streaming from various platforms. Children will be able to use the smart display for educational content, the company says, as it supports platforms that deliver storytelling, encyclopedias and English tutoring.
Equipped with an HD camera, Redmi Touch Screen Speaker 8 supports video calls with phones, smartwatches and Mi TVs. It uses biometric facial recognition to identify children and instantly switch to a child-friendly interface and activate parental control.
By leveraging voice recognition, the smart display comes with XiaoAI voice assistant and can recognize family members. It can also be synchronized with smart home devices for overall surveillance. As of March 27, it can be purchased for CN¥349 (roughly US$49).
Redmi recently demonstrated its in-display fingerprint biometrics in smartphone with LCD screen.
