CourseKey releases biometric attendance tool to prevent online education fraud

E-learning company CourseKey has released a biometric facial and fingerprint scanning solution to keep track of student attendance and curtail online education fraud, the company announced.
Prior to this release, the company had developed a geo-location attendance tracking solution. Adding the new multi-modal biometric technology promises enhanced security against academic fraud.
Amid COVID-19, schools around the world have moved online, as distance learning may become a normal routine for the foreseeable future. However, as fraud is likely to skyrocket, CourseKey’s technology prevents user fraud by verifying the identity of the person behind the screen, to ensure it is the student who should be taking the class.
The online platform uses the biometric security data collected by the student’s device for enhanced protection and real-time updates for the instructor to know who is behind the screen.
A number of schools have already successfully used CourseKey’s platform to make the transition to online education and engage with students to create the feel of a live classroom environment.
TypingDNA began offering free use of its behavioral biometric technology to support fraud prevention in online education during the pandemic in March.
