Zwipe partners on fingerprint sensor milling and embedding for biometric payment cards at mass volumes

Zwipe partners on fingerprint sensor milling and embedding for biometric payment cards at mass volumes

Zwipe has partnered with card manufacturing equipment supplier Cardmatix to collaborate on equipment and modular solutions to support milling and embedding fingerprint sensors for biometric payment card manufacturing at mass volumes, according to a company announcement.

The partners will work together on the design, development, and commercialization of technologies for producing biometric cards at scale.

Cardmatix is headquartered in Dongguan, China, and is a leading player in the development of industrial manufacturing and testing equipment specifically for mass producing payment cards, Zwipe says.

“We have cooperated closely with Zwipe through our sister company Silone Cardtech, and we are convinced the biometric payment card market is poised for mass-volume take-off,” states Cardmatix CEO John Wu. “Our industrial solutions will make smart card manufacturers’ job of producing millions of biometric payment cards much more cost-efficient thanks to the unique insights shared by Zwipe’s technical team.”

Zwipe partnered with Silone Cardtech in 2018 to work on dual-interface cards drawing power from POS terminals for the Chinese card market. Strong payment card growth is expected in the Chinese market, and established stakeholders are fast-tracking their capacity to support the demand, the companies claim.

“This is an important step in preparing our supply chain and global capacity to meet future demand,” says Zwipe CEO André Løvestam. “Cardmatix is one of the world’s most well-established high-volume card manufacturing equipment providers and we are excited to broaden our ability to serve our customers with their strong support.”
