Daon contactless biometrics partnerships for air travel, credit unions expand

Daon will provide American Airlines and the government of Chile with VeriFLY, a new biometric mobile wellness app that shares real-time authentication of COVID-related credentials, such as lab results, from travelers’ smartphones.
VeriFLY is intended to help travelers meet coronavirus (COVID-19) documentation requirements and enable them to safely display and store their test results digitally. It will modernize airport check-ins through digital authentication and ensure customers have completed COVID-related documentation requirements, according to the announcement.
The launch marks the expansion of a trial American recently announced to use the VeriFLY app for travel between Miami and two Caribbean airports.
Starting December 7, travelers flying between Santiago, Chile (SCL) and Miami International Airport (MIA) may test the new app at no cost by creating a secure profile with face biometrics and confirming trip details. Patrons traveling to Chile will have access to preflight COVID-19 tests that must be completed within 72 hours of departure.
“As we continue to reopen travel throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, we have been looking for ways to simplify our customers’ travel experience,” American Airlines VP of Operations for Miami, the Caribbean, and Latin America Juan Carlos Liscano said. “Our preflight testing program and our recently launched mobile app trial are essential tools that will help our customers return to the skies.”
National Director of Chile’s National Tourism Service Andrea Wolleter stated: “Today we are promoting responsible and safe tourism through the adoption of protocols which now provide a better travel experience, helping simplify procedures while respecting health security measures.”
Daon IdentityX biometric authentication availability reaches 350 US credit unions
Meanwhile in financial services, Daon and Michigan-based CU*Answers, a Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO), have announced the expansion of Daon’s IdentityX digital onboarding service to more than 350 member credit unions nationwide.
IdentityX digital onboarding will allow credit unions to provide contact-free banking services to their members through a mobile app and web browser. It allows CU*Answers to equip its member credit unions with advanced counterfeit detection and a cutting-edge administrative console for comprehensive analytics and transparent data.
The service promises fully automated account creation and ID document verification services (for 6000-plus government-issued IDs from more than 110 countries). Additionally, IdentityX is capable of reading ID data from government-issued ID document chips via contact-less NFC and validate signatures from issuing authorities.
With IdentityX digital onboarding, the account opening procedure is completed in 30 seconds or less, Daon says, calling it a significant improvement compared to a process that often takes 15 to 30 minutes. Credit union members can apply for an account by scanning their ID documents and taking a selfie for biometric matching and proof of liveness. Once registered, members use selfie biometrics to access their credit union’s services.
CU*Answers President and COO Geoff Johnson praised the recent expansion. “Adding Daon’s IdentityX Digital Onboarding to our online membership opening process will now give prospective members the same high degree of convenience by speeding up identity verification, but to the same, if not a higher, level of certainty for the credit union.”
“We are proud that CU*Answers will now leverage Daon’s IdentityX platform to both serve its digital onboarding and omnichannel authentication needs, offering credit unions a uniquely comprehensive solution and helping their members take control of their digital journeys,” Tom Grissen, CEO of Daon stated.
The expansion follows Daon and CU*Answers’ partnership extension announced in June 2020. Since the partnership began in 2018, IdentityX had already been extended to over 160 CU*Answers member credit unions, with an active user base increased by 235 percent. Daon and CU*Answers’ cooperation began with the introduction of CU*Answers’ Multiple Authentication Convenience Options (MACO) product, powered by Daon’s IdentityX as a Service, in its Internet Retailer Support Center (IRSC).
MACO provides authentication through a choice of PINs, voice recognition, fingerprint or face biometrics.
