Suncorp Bank adds fingerprint authentication feature to mobile app

Financial institution Suncorp Bank announced it has added a fingerprint authentication feature to its mobile banking application, according to a report by CIO.

The new feature uses Apple’s Touch ID biometric technology to enable mobile app users with the latest iPhone or iPad devices to log into their accounts by simply touching the screen with their finger.

Currently, 40% of Suncorp’s iOS customers have a fingerprint-ready mobile device and are seeking more streamlined options to manage their money, said Suncorp digital banking manager Simon Clarke.

Suncorp’s mobile app development team worked together with the product, security, and marketing teams to create the fingerprint login capability.

Earlier this year, Suncorp announced that it will release six mobile apps in 2015.

“We have seen a 73% increase in mobile banking activity over the past 12 months, with more than 90 million self-service transactions performed via our mobile app,” said Clarke.

The fingerprint authentication feature will be available on Suncorp’s mobile app from August 12 on the Apple iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad Mini 3.

Previously reported, BMO Harris Bank and Citizens Bank have recently integrated Touch ID fingerprint authentication technologies into their respective mobile banking apps.
