Fujitsu has partnered with Nok Nok Labs in which the Japanese systems integrator will act as a global value-added reseller (VAR) of the NNL S3 Authentication Suite to deliver end-to-end FIDO authentication to the Japanese market and worldwide to its global customer base.

Under the agreement terms, Fujitsu will leverage the Nok Nok solution as a part of its online biometric authentication service, which provides companies that offer online services to their end users with the software and servers they need to implement FIDO-backed strong authentication.

As a result, Fujitsu will now be able to benefit from Nok Nok Labs’ technology to enable successful deployments of large scale unified authentication solutions.

“We are excited to begin executing on this partnership to deliver biometric authentication to more users in Japan and globally as the need for a safer online authentication framework increases,” said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of Nok Nok Labs. “We will work together with Fujitsu to bring more robust biometric authentication support to customers in more than 100 countries around the world.”

Fujitsu customers can use the NNL S3 Suite to generate online personal authentication systems with a high level of security.

In doing so, they will no longer have to rely on passwords for various day-to-day situations such as online banking, shopping, ticket arrangements and car sharing.

Since the online biometric authentication service adheres to FIDO specifications with facial recognition obtained through camera-equipped smartphones and other biometrics, there will be a significantly greater number of supported devices on the client side.

“Partnering with an innovator like Nok Nok Labs enables us to extend strong biometric authentication to our customers, eliminating the need for usernames and passwords and delivering better privacy, security and a more seamless customer experience,” said Michihiro Ejiri, VP of Fujitsu Limited’s front digital service division and head of innovative IoT business unit. “This solution will enable financial customers in Japan to undergo digital transformations and increase their competitive advantage, and will eventually extend into other global vertical markets.”

Nok Nok Labs plans to expand the partnership on a global basis to additional Fujitsu customers in the EMEA, North America, New Zealand and Australia.

Nok Nok Labs discussed in an April blog post how its product and engineering teams are leading FIDO standards development, as well as mapping out and delivering capabilities that go beyond basic FIDO standards.
