Biometric contactless card reference for Chinese market features FPC sensor

Fingerprint Cards and Secure Element provider CV Microelectronic of China are working together to develop a biometric card reference for the domestic Chinese market. The reference card is called SecTouch, is contactless and has no battery. It uses a fingerprint sensor with ultra-low power consumption from the FPC1300-series.

According to the announcement, Fingerprint Cards says the market for payment cards is growing in China and that its market research shows that 67% of consumers in China find a biometric card appealing.

A recent report by ABI Research predicts that shipments of biometric payment cards will grow by approximately 400 percent CAGR to reach 160 million by 2022.

Fingerprint Cards recently published an ebook titled “Biometrics – The Missing Piece of the Payment Card Puzzle?”, which explores the company’s belief that 2018 is a turning-point toward volume adoption of on-card biometrics.
