WEX launches biometric app for fleet fuel payments

Payments company WEX has announced the launch of a mobile payment authorization system enabling fleet drivers to conduct seamless and secure fuel transactions from within their vehicles with a thumbprint or facial recognition.

Fleet managers invite drivers to use the DriverDash mobile app, which authorizes and documents the transaction using biometrics.

“DriverDash is the next evolution in fuel cards: powerful, fast, simple and convenient,” says WEX Vice President of Product Peggy Watson. “We’re thrilled to continue to use our innovative technology to provide customers with modern, safe, seamless ways to pay for their fuel and capture their data.”

Watson said the payment experience is faster, easier, and intuitive for drivers, and that bringing WEX’s traditional payments platform to mobile devices made sense as the company looks for ways to better serve customers.

DriverDash is accepted at more than 11,000 Exxon and Mobile-branded locations in the continental U.S., and WEX is working to expand its network.

“We are excited to partner with WEX in accepting the DriverDash mobile payment app, for use with our proprietary ExxonMobil fleet cards,” says Miguel Castillo, Americas Payments Marketing Manager, ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants.

A recent report from Transparency Market Research predicts that digital payments are likely to be the future of monetary transactions in the coming years, which will result in increased demand for mobile biometrics-based security and services.
