Herta finishes in top 3 at biometric technology rally hosted by Homeland Security and NIST

Herta has placed in the top three facial recognition vendors, with scores among the highest for efficiency, customer satisfaction, and performance at the 2018 Biometric Technology Rally held by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The event was held at the DHS-affiliated Maryland Test Facility (MdTF), with participants attempting to match faces to a gallery with 3,000 images of 300 people one at a time as they pass through a checkpoint. Average transaction time, image processing failures, percentage of customers satisfied, and effectiveness of providing positive identification in less than 20 seconds were measured.

Herta specializes in many-to-many solutions, such as the one deployed to three football stadiums in Uruguay earlier this year, but designed a solution specifically for the one-to-many test, according to the announcement.

“It was an inspiring experience, where we had to work under pressure in order to design a specific solution for a test which reflects a real-world use case.” Herta CTO Alex Collado-Castells said. “The test generated very useful metrics which are aligned to the current government requirements and needs. Herta performed excellent at efficiency, customer satisfaction and performance, the three main goals of the Rally.”

The results of the rally are available from the MdTF website.
