Indiegogo deploys Onfido identity verification tech

Onfido announced today that Indiegogo is using its AI-led identity verification to ensure that fraudsters are kept off of the crowdfunding platform and build trust within its user base.

By verifying new users at the point of sign-up, Indiegogo now has more assurance that people are who they claim to be. With Onfido’s identity verification technology legitimate campaigners can now be quickly onboarded to Indiegogo. Campaigners now take a selfie and a photo of their identity document and Onfido checks that the government ID is genuine and matches it to the user’s face.

“Building trust in our community is a top priority at Indiegogo, and Onfido helps us achieve that,” explains Kerry Baker, Head of Trust and Safety at Indiegogo. “By ensuring we keep fraudsters off our platform, not only can we avoid hefty non-compliance fines, but our users also have more faith that their money is going to the causes and innovations they really believe in.”

Onfido has been adding to its senior leadership team as it expands into further global territories. The identity verification provider has received over $60M in funding from investors including M12, Salesforce Ventures and Idinvest Partners and carries out identity checks in 192 countries.
