Danal launches service to confirm user mobile phone numbers without SMS

Mobile identity provider Danal has announced the launch of a new service, phoneverification.io, to enable apps and services to perform frictionless, instant, and secure user phone number verification without using SMS.

The service provides app agnostic verification, and uses an API call and information from the user’s wireless carrier to confirm his or her phone number. The process is seamless for the end user, according to the announcement, and takes only a few seconds. The company says it can maximize conversions while maintaining security.

The service can be applied to perform phone number verification for new accounts, implement password-less login, prevent account takeover through profile change, or as part of two-factor authentication.

“Businesses are turning to a mobile-first strategy with a focus on user experience. The mobile phone number is the fulcrum in this strategy as it is the primary identifier for their customers,” said Abhishek Tiwari, VP Product and Marketing, Danal Inc. “We have all experienced the annoyance of typing in our phone number and waiting for a text that contains the authentication code. Until now, enterprises had no option but to use SMS based one-time passcode as two-factor authentication, which is prone to frauds like man-in-the-middle, social engineering, malwares, etc. and delivers a cumbersome experience to end users. Danal’s phone number verifications make this process seamless for both users and businesses while being completely protected against any frauds or unreliable delivery issues that of SMS based mechanisms experience.”

Phoneverification.io is now available in North America, and is rolling out gradually to markets in Europe and Asia.

Danal partnered with Experian and AuthenticID earlier this year, adding biometric capabilities to its Global Identity Solution.
