IDEX introduces SmartFinger name for its line of fingerprint technologies

 

IDEX Biometrics has announced it is unifying its fingerprint identification and authentication technology, including sensors and modules, under the SmartFinger name.

The company says it is one of only two to offer off-chip capacitive fingerprint sensors and solutions, and the only supplier offering it with the preferred ridge-matching biometric algorithm. Separating the sensing element from the image acquisition and processing chip ensures excellent security, significantly higher image fidelity, enhanced noise immunity and usability under real-world conditions at a mass market-friendly cost level, according to the announcement.

“We love the SmartFinger name as it clearly and instantly tells what we do,” says IDEX Biometrics CEO Stan Swearingen. “Our SmartFinger fingerprint technologies are highly secure, customizable and deliver a strong biometric performance whilst ensuring an outstanding user experience.”

IDEX SmartFinger products also provide sensor design flexibility, and the option to use different substrate materials for specific applications in a range including smart card, IoT, healthcare, and embedded systems. The company touts the end-to-end transport-level security of its onboard encryption, and the bendable silicon-on-polymer process that it says improves the flexibility of fingerprint sensors.

The SmartFinger IDX3205 Fingerprint Sensor is currently being used in the company’s partner’s dual-interface cards, and the SmartFinger IDX3400 Biometric Module is being used in contact cards. IDEX announced its latest smartcard partnerships earlier this month with Excelsecu, and Visionox.
