MobileIron launches new zero sign-on technology for cloud service authentication

New zero sign-on technology from MobileIron is now available to provide secure authentication to enterprise cloud services without passwords, leveraging mobile devices as the primary authentication device.

Users can log into SaaS applications like Office 365 and Salesforce from any laptop or desktop using a secured iPhone with MobileIron’s unified endpoint management (UEM) platform and MobileIron Access software. The platform enables policy enforcement and data protection for both the device and the network, and comprehensively correlates the signals between users, devices, apps, networks, and threats critical for zero trust systems, according to the announcement.

“Passwords have remained one of the biggest security risks and continue to be one of the top causes of enterprise data breaches,” said Mobile Iron CEO Simon Biddiscombe. “That’s why MobileIron is ushering in a new era of user authentication with zero password access to business services. Making the world’s most ubiquitous product – the mobile device – your digital ID and secure access to the enterprise provides the best user experience and significantly reduces the risk of data breaches. It’s a win-win situation for both employees and security leaders.”

A recent IDG report showed 90 percent of security professionals have seen unauthorized access attempts with stolen credentials, and 60 percent of employees feel disrupted and frustrated by passwords.

MobileIron also recently issued a report noting that 84 percent of organizations are planning to implement new authentication methods.
