Football club Ajax Amsterdam deploys Mitek biometrics to improve online experience, privacy

Dutch European football champions Ajax Amsterdam has partnered with AI and machine learning solution developer Mitek to enhance fans’ online experience and data security, the club announced. Ajax will roll out Mitek’s digital verification solution named Mobile Verify with Face Comparison to verify online ticket buyer’ identity.

Following a major GDPR compliance roadblock requiring paper copies of fans’ ID documents, the club decided to revise and improve its online process to ensure compliance. As a result, it chose to integrate identity verification technology.

Mobile Verify uses facial recognition combined with document authentication technology to confirm IDs used in digital transactions are legitimate and have not been tampered with. The next stage involves face comparison algorithms that cross match the ID photo with a selfie to confirm the rightful owner is making the transaction.

Ajax has completely digitized customer journey to also improve stadium entrance times, the club says, while Mitek’s technology will secure customer IDs and ensure GDPR compliance.

“Our fans are the lifeblood of the Club. To improve our fans’ online experience and security in ticket sales, we knew the next stage was to deploy identity verification technology,” said Susan Lenderink CFO at Ajax Amsterdam. “We know that our online process will be improved through digital ID verification, transforming our fans’ experience and keeping them on-side even outside the 90 minutes of play.”

“Football fans nowadays want the best online experience, and Ajax’s investment in the latest technology is making this a reality,” said Rene Hendrikse, EMEA MD at Mitek. “We are proud to work alongside Ajax, a club so in tune with its fans, to help improve their online experience. With an identity verification process where AI is doing the heavy lifting, Ajax’s fans can get a consumer-friendly online experience. With an industry-leading focus on fan experience, we look forward to continuing our work with this innovative and historic club.”

Mitek’s Mobile Verify solution has also been recently deployed by Flexi-Fi as part of its customer onboarding process to keep its partners KYC compliant and ensure data privacy.
