MorphoTrak to manage APD’s upgraded AFIS as a service via Morpho Cloud

MorphoTrak will be providing a major upgrade to the Albuquerque Police Department’s (APD) automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) by converting its traditional on-premise fingerprint identification system to MorphoTrak’s biometric identification solution, MorphoBIS housed in Morpho Cloud, a multi-biometric identification-as-a-service solution.

The cloud technology allows agencies to use software applications as services and store data on secured vendor-owned and managed servers maintained at peak performance, maximizing system security and streamlining system administration.

“Officers are looking forward to the enhanced speed and precision of searches with MorphoBIS,” said Rishma Khimji, APD Director of Technical Services. “In particular, the ability to perform direct searches of the FBI’s databases, without the use of the intermediate Universal Latent Workstation, will save officers hours each week, and allow them to work the most urgent cases.”

Morpho Cloud is hosted on Microsoft Azure Government, a cloud platform designed to meet FBI CJIS security policy requirements for structural and digital security. Azure uses redundant, geographically distant data centers to ensure data and services are safeguarded.

“The Albuquerque Police Department is taking the lead in the law enforcement community by converting its traditional on-premise AFIS to a service-based solution in the cloud,” said Steve Vinsik, Vice President of MorphoTrak’s Criminal Justice and Public Security business unit. “We’re pleased to be a part of this forward-looking effort that enhances the performance of the Albuquerque Police Department’s biometric identification solution, assures the security of data, and supplies law enforcement officers with the capabilities they need to protect the public and solve crimes.”

Earlier this month, MorphoTrak was awarded the 2015 North American Frost & Sullivan Company of the Year Award. “The success of MorphoTrak’s latest contactless fingerprint scanning technology, MorphoWave, has consolidated the company’s position as a top-rung player in the fingerprint biometrics market,” said Frost & Sullivan in a statement.
