SenseTime facial recognition deployed for payments, driver monitoring on Shanghai buses
SenseTime and the Shanghai International Automobile City Group (SIACG) have been working together to improve SIACG’s shuttle bus service operations, driver management and passenger experience by leveraging SenseTime’s advanced AI facial recognition technology.
38 of the 100+ shuttle bus routes in Shanghai have been upgraded with SenseTime’s smart cockpit solution. Powered by SenseTime’s SenseDrive driving monitor system (DMS), the solution is capable of recognizing driver identity, fatigue level, distraction level and gives appropriate alerts to ensure safe driving. The upgrade will gradually expand to all routes in the future. The upgrades are low cost as only an infrared camera is required.
SenseTime is also improving the shuttle bus passenger experience with a facial recognition payment system. Once registered on the shuttle bus service app with their photo, passengers simply scan their faces and board, saving the hassle of waiting in queue to pay when getting on a bus.
The partnership with SIACG marks the debut of SenseTime’s smart cockpit system on public transport. The company expects to introduce gesture recognition, eye-sight tracking and other functions to bring road safety to a whole new level.
According to a recent CB Insights study, SenseTime tops the list of global artificial intelligence startups attracting major investment.
